ASIA is committed to maintaining confidentiality and protecting the privacy of the personal information under its custody and control in compliance with the B.C. Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and the Federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What is Personal Information?

Personal Information is any recorded information on an identifiable individual. This can include, but is not limited to, an individual’s name, home address, telephone number, age, gender, health care history, financial, criminal, or employment history.

Privacy Practices

Personal Information will only be collected, used and disclosed in accordance with PIPA/PIPEDA. When ASIA collects personal information, we will make every reasonable effort to obtain the individuals’ consent to collect and use their information. Individuals may provide consent verbally, in writing or electronically, and may be implied or expressed.

ASIA employees and volunteers are authorized to access personal information based on their need to deal with the information for the reasons for which it was obtained. Personal information collected will only be used for the specific purpose for which the information was provided and will not be made available to others for any other purpose.

Personal information gathered by ASIA will be kept in confidence and reasonable measures will be taken to prevent against unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure copying, or disposal. ASIA will ensure that all employees, volunteers and third-party organizations retained by ASIA who will have access to personal information will be bound by a non-disclosure agreement that complies with this privacy policy.

ASIA will have the ability to disclose personal information collected where they are authorized by PIPA/PIPEDA or required by law.

Updating of Privacy Policy

ASIA regularly reviews our privacy practices and updates our policy in accordance with PIPA/PIPEDA.
